Camotes Island: Travel Guide

“We wander for distraction but we travel for fulfillment.”

Happy Monday, everyone! We’re back from our sweetest escape during the weekend. For those who have just checked in, we went to Camotes Island for a two-day summer outing last weekend.

My internet connection is not very well right now, I’m still waiting for the photos to be uploaded completely. For the mean time, I will just share to you a guide on how to get to the island. And hopefully by tomorrow or the next day I can share some of our adventures there. 🙂

“Camotes” means sweet potatoes in Filipino language. The island was named after that because that was the main crop that farmers grow there. This is just one of the 7,107 islands Philippines has, and one of the most beautiful.

Camotes is located in the eastern coast of the mainland Cebu. It is two hours away by boat from Danao Port. One of the humble islands of my country but it is a paradise to me. It offers beauty beyond my imagination.

How to get there:

From Cebu North Bus terminal, ride a bus going to Danao City or you can catch a multicab or a jeepney with Danao route. The fare is 35 pesos. (Since we are in Mandaue city, so we just rode a jeepney going to Danao which cost us 30pesos each.)

When you reach Danao Port, you can buy a ticket for 180 pesos and 5 pesos for the terminal fee. Be there an hour before your desired boarding time if you don’t have a ticket yet because the line could be very long especially during peak season (March-May and November-January). The ride is approximately two hours, and you will arrive at Consuelo Port. Upon arrival, there are motorcycles and jeepneys for hire that offers hotel transfer for 50 pesos each. You can also rent a motorcyle for 500 pesos for a half day tour. You can choose to either drive it yourself or let the driver be your tour guide. (Some hotels offer motorbike for rent, too. Some also offer tour packages.)

Where to stay:

We stayed in Bellavista Mare Resort, this was the same hotel I stayed on my last visit. They offer cheap and clean rooms. You can choose a fan room or an air conditioned one. A fan room is great because you don’t really need the air condition since the resort is by the beach which is by the way very cool. You can contact them on this number 09177925583. There are still many hotels around, and some locals also open their houses for backpackers.

What to do there:

Some hotels offer tour packages, so just check with your hotel’s reception. You can also arrange a tour with a motorcyle or jeepney upon arrival on the port. The island is not very big, it can be itinerated for just a day.

Those are just some of the beautiful places the island offers. For sure there are still hidden gems yet to be explored.
