A Teacher, I Am!

teach-abroad4-edit

“I facilitate thinking. I engage minds. I listen to questions. I encourage risk. I support struggle. I cultivate dreams. I learn everyday. I TEACH!”

Yes! I am an ESL teacher, and I am proud of that.

I’ve been teaching ESL for 5 years now. And during that 5 years of teaching, there has never been a time that I regret choosing this career. In a country like mine — where teachers are not given as much benefits as other professions, it is very common to hear other people questioning you about your teaching career.

I once worked in a BPO industry. I must admit, I was very satisfied with the pay and the benefits for being a call center agent. In fact, what I’m earning as a teacher is not even a half of what I earned in BPO. But my heart yearned for that satisfaction I feel from teaching students to read and write. Leaving BPO was one of the major decisions I made in my life. The position I left was no joke. I strove to reach such position and leaving it for teaching…my friends said was “a foolish move“. I discerned it. I asked HIS guidance, and I let HIS will be done. I resigned from the job and went back teaching. I am thankful for my family and friends who supported me with my decision.

It’s been 5 years! Who would have thought, I would come this far. But the future is uncertain. For now, I am happily working as an ESL teacher. I don’t have plans to teach in public schools yet. I’m still young and it would still be a long way to go. I just want to savor the moment while I’m still on the right track.

‘Til next post. *Ciao! :*
